Acronis True Image 2016 For Macbook Air

I have been using Acronis since its version having no year number in it.

But I ahve to say that 2015 for PC/Mac sucks big time. The recovering booting usb created by 2015 for Mac does not even work. Fortunately, I got 2016 3PC/Mac for free. I finally make it work to clone mac and bootcamp to a new ssd drive from seagate 2.5.

Here is the procedure.

1) format the backup external disk to mac format.

2) backup both mac and bootcamp together. make sure the total file size is matching mac plus bootcamp. Once a while, the 2016 just back up bootcamp for some unknown reasons.

3) create the external booting usb from 2016.

4) use disk utility from the recover usb to create corresponding mac and bootcamp partition accordingly.

5) then select both mac and bootcamp from back up. The successful rate is pretty high.

Step 4 is important. I did have situations with only mac, or just bootcamp created.

Since all the other clone tools charge lots of money now, this 2016 Acronis is working better and simpler than the winclone etc.

Installation

Can I install it on Windows 10?
I have purchased Acronis True Image. Where do I find the installation file?

Please check the confirmation e-mail. It contains links to the installation files.

You can find the installation file of the latest build in your account at any time:

  1. Log in into your account.
  2. Navigate to Products.
  3. Under your registered products locate Acronis True Image and click Download. The latest build will be downloaded.
How can I install Acronis True Image 2016 over previous versions?

If you already have Acronis True Image 2015 or Acronis True Image 2014 installed, there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. Start the installation file of Acronis True Image 2016 and install the product. After upgrade, create a new bootable media.

If you already have True Image 2013 by Acronis or older versions, you need to delete these first and then install Acronis True Image 2016.

I received an error message during installation. What should I do?

Activation & Login

Why do I need to log in when starting the program?
You will be asked to log in to your account when you first start Acronis True Image (the software remembers your login, so you will not need to re-enter it every time). When you provide your account's credentials, the software will automatically activate the serial number registered in your account and make all features available in Acronis True Image Cloud active immediately (otherwise you will need to log in later).
Can I use my serial number on Windows or Mac?

Serial number can be used on both Windows and Mac. This means you can reinstall the software using the same serial number on a Mac, when you replace a Windows computer with a Mac (and vice versa).

My serial number is not accepted. What should I do?
I receive “You've exceeded the maximum number of activations” error message. What shall I do?

Cause

  • You exceed the limit of available activations. For example, you have a Acronis True Image 2016 for 1 computer and attempt to install Acronis True Image 2016 on more than 1 machine.
  • You reinstall or upgrade your operating system.
  • You upgrade your machine with new hardware.
  • You replace your machine with a new one.

If you want to use Acronis True Image 2016 on more machines than you license allows, you will need to purchase additional serial numbers and activate the new copies.

How do I protect my computer?

When backing up your computer, you have three options: back up the entire machine, individual disks or individual files and folders. Entire machine backup guarantees the complete protection of your system, programs and documents. How can I protect my smartphone and tablet?

This option is available for Acronis True Image Cloud users.

Can I back up to cloud?

You can store your backups in Acronis Cloud when you have an Acronis True Image Cloud license.

We highly recommend using the Cloud storage as it is the only way to protect your data from the hardware damage (as opposed to an internal drive or an external USB drive) or theft. Furthermore it gives you the opportunity to access and restore your data anytime and from anywhere.

How can I set up compression for my backups?
  1. While creating a backup, click on Options:
  2. Click on Advanced:

  4. Select compression level:

Compression is not available for backup to cloud, data in your cloud backup is deduplicated automatically: before you start an online backup, Acronis True Image analyzes the data that you selected. If there are two or more identical data blocks, only one of them will be uploaded to Acronis Cloud.

How can I recover my computer?
  1. Start your computer with Acronis bootable rescue media.
  2. On the home screen, select My disks below Recover.
  3. Select the system disk or partition backup to be used for recovery.
  4. Select Recover whole disks and partitions as recovery method.
  5. Select Items to recover -partitions you want to recover.
  6. Carefully read the summary of operations and click Proceed if all selections were made correctly.

I have bought a new computer. How can I restore my system to the new computer?
  1. When your new computer's hardware differs from the old, you need to prepare drivers for this hardware, so the operating system in the backup will recognize the new hardware.
  2. Start your new computer with Acronis bootable rescue media.
  3. On the home screen, select My disks below Recover.
  4. Select the system disk or partition backup to be used for recovery.
  5. Select Recover whole disks and partitions as recovery method.
  6. Select Items to recover -partitions you want to recover.
  7. Carefully read the summary of operations and click Proceed if all selections were made correctly.
  8. Create Acronis Universal Restore bootable media and boot your new computer.
  9. Select Apply Universal Restore.
  10. Specify the drivers.
  11. Click OK to start Universal Restore process.
  12. Start the computer when Acronis True Image finishes Universal Restore.

My system crashed. I do not have an installed product. I haven't noted my serial number.
  1. Get your serial number using Serial Number Retriever.
  2. Download ISO file of the product from MY PRODUCTS & DOWNLOADS.
  3. Burn the ISO Image. See Burning an ISO Image.

Does Acronis True Image 2016 support cloning of dynamic disks?

No, you can only clone basic MBR and GPT-disks.

Here is how you can find out the type of partitions layout of your hard drive in Disk Management:

Before cloning:

  1. Make sure the target disk (SSD) has more free space than is occupied on you old disk (HDD), you won't be able to clone if the data cannot fit to the new disk.
  2. Make sure the drive you want to clone is a basic drive.

Cloning procedure:

  1. On the sidebar, click Tools, and then click Clone disk.
  2. Follow on-screen instructions.
